We are not going to discuss that here, rather we're going to look at the basic usage of the program. Recently Sophos announced that Sandboxie is now freeware, and are planning to make it open source. Sandboxie has changed hands twice I think, from the original developer to Invincea, who were in turn acquired by Sophos (and there are rumors that Sophos is up for sale as well). Hope you would like it too.The activity of the sandbox don't affect Windows or your other programs/files in any way what happens in Sandboxie stays in Sandboxie. I have been using Sandboxie Plus Classic mainly to sandbox my browsers and find it a useful tool for protection in addition to my resident antivirus. Some of the useful links for Sandboxie Plus: Make Use Of Article on How to Run Anything You Download Securely With Sandboxie Plus for Windows : The cert issue mentioned before is in the past after the relevant certificate to sign the Sandboxie driver was acquired. Latest version released on – Release v1.0.22 / 5.55.22 I know this thread is a bit old but wanted to update it for the askwoody readers who may be interested to check it out :

“C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe” default_browser –no-sandbox I use the following shortcut string when I launch a browser with SBIE: If not, you get a lot of weird errors before the browser opens but still works fine afterwards. I started using the opensource version ever since 5.45 5.45.1 also works fine with my Win10 setup.Īs a side note, if you are still using WinXP, he also compiled a version that works with XP (but may have issues if you are running an anti-virus program per what I mentioned earlier) link below:Īdditionally, if you are running a browser with a builtin sandbox, best to run browser outside that sandbox is you are running it in SBIE. Since 5.45, they finally purchased (at apparent great expense) a legit cert from Microsoft so should no longer receive the false positives.

Prior to 5.45, the opensource version of SBIE was using a rogue cert (for lack of a better term) that caused a lot of false positive mal-ware issues.
